How to Write Literature Review Effectively without Plagiarism

Research writing is an art. It is one of the most difficult activity. The researcher believes that creating a connection between words is annoying. Some even don’t know how to start a paragraph and where to end. We are going to discuss the most difficult part of any research article. A literature review is part of every research article or thesis. In the case study below, we will highlight some of the basics tricks that can be used to write the literature review effectively.

A literature review is second part in any research article or thesis. It comes after introduction. In the introduction usually, the terminologies and little knowledge of the domain are discussed. At the end of introduction there is a little introduction to your work and here comes the literature review which is the most difficult section to differentiate your work from others.

Many researchers think that article must include the papers which are published in the highly peer-reviewed journal. They have more importance than others. But this thought is true to some extent but can’t be considered the basics to get started while writing literature. Articles which have been published in good conferences such as ACM, IEEE have the same impact as of peer-reviewed journals. So, don’t worry, search some good article related to your area of research and start writing.

How to Write Literature Review Effectively without Plagiarism

In this article, we will give you some tips for writing literature review without any plagiarism. The first and the most important point is to collect articles which are related to your area of work. Open IEEE official library or Google scholars for this task. Type the keywords. For example, if you are working in text analysis, and you have used different Machine Learning algorithms for classifications or prediction then write:

“text analysis, text analysis in Machine Learning, text mining, text classification, text on social networks, opinion classification.”

Above are some keywords related to text classification, you can choose your keywords according to your area of research. Don’t worry it is a very easy job to search. Before collecting articles, keep in mind some of the basics tips.

Try to collect articles which have been published in recent years

Make a separate folder on your computer for literature and introduction. Now it’s time to start.

Explain little about your domain. It should not exceed five lines. The best methodology for writing literature review is to read the abstract and select keywords. There is no need to read the whole paper. Consider the example below.

The keywords we selected in the above abstract are “sentiment analysis, Big Data, TF-IDF, SVM, K Means, classification, Health, pattern, dengue.”

The above keywords are enough for writing at least 200 words. These keywords are enough to know about the overall article. Here we go.

Literature Review Writing Tips

The sentimental classification has been adopted for various text classification purposes.  Various studies have been found for the classification of user’s feedback, tweets, comments and blog classifications. Author Name et al. (more than two authors) have worked on the classification of unstructured data available on social networks.

The main objective of the study is to extract a useful pattern from the social data available online. Which can be used to outbreak the dengue before the attack. For the given task, authors have used various text mining techniques.

K-Mean and Support Vector Machine (SVM) have used for the said purpose. K-means clustering is a type of unsupervised learning, which is used when you have unlabeled data (i.e., data without defined categories or groups). Similarly, SVM has supervised learning models used for classification and regression.

Authors have also merged unstructured data available on social sites, e-commerce sites and the blog available, and merged this raw data with structured data available in traditional databases. Useful information extracted from the data has been used for different outbreak purposes.

Highlighting keywords from the abstract and explaining little about them will stretch the paragraph to at least 13-14 lines. It is enough in the article for one citation.

It is one of the easiest jobs in the research article. Selecting keywords and explaining them one to three lines will easily make it a paragraph. How to refer the content is a different story, either it is APA style or MLA. It depends on the format of Journal or conference.
